Background Image Dimensions

You can add an image as the background on many products. This allows for your design or photo to bleed off the page. Below are the dimensions needed to have a background image bleed.  Please note that the dimensions include 1/8" bleed on all sides. 

Note: Be sure when creating a design that the resolution or DPI (dots per inch) is set at 300 - this ensures a clear, high-quality image is printed. If designing in Canva, which does not provide the option to set the resolution, use the pixel dimensions.  

5 x 7 Postcard Front or Back: 7.25 x 5.25 inches, 2175 x 1575 pixels (Be aware of off limit zones for address and postage)
6 x 9 Postcard Front or Back: 9.25 x 6.25 inches, 2775 x 1875 pixels (Be aware of off limit zones for address and postage)
6 x 9 Postcard Half Panel Back: 4.625 x 6.25 inches, 1387 x 1875 pixels
6 x 11 Postcard Front or Back: 11.25 x 6.25 inches, 3375 x 1875 pixels (Be aware of off limit zones for address and postage)
Vertical Card Front or Back (Folded Cards & Event Invitation): 4.84 x 6.68 inches, 1452 x 2005 pixels
Horizontal Card Front or Back (Folded Cards & Event Invitation): 6.68 x 4.84 inches, 2005 x 1452 pixels
Vertical Card Inside (Folded Cards & Event Invitation): 9.6865 x 6.6875 inches, 2906 x 2006 pixels

  1. Click on the link for the template you would like to use - a new window will open with the template.
  2. Click "Use template" in the new window.
  3. Now in Canva, you can delete the placeholder information such as the name, dimensions, and background color to customize the design. You can also rename the file by clicking on the name in the top right corner, near the "Download" button.
  4. When your design is complete, click the "Download" button in the top right corner.
  5. Select your file type that you would like to download; recommended type for AppealMaker is JPG or PNG.
  6. Once you've downloaded your image, go to your AppealMaker draft and select a component from the options along the top (e.g. Postcard Front). Click the "Select Background Image" button and upload your image. Repeat for all components to which you'd like to add a background image.
